With seven weeks to go until race day, Ironman China invites you to ramp up your training and add an Ironman, and possibly a Ford Ironman World Championship or Ironman 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship slot, to your calendar.md-ot200

Ironman China, taking place on March 14, offers 50 qualifying slots for the 2010 Ford Ironman World Championship, taking place in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.

In just two years, Ironman China has gained a reputation as a star on the Ironman calendar with one of the most scenic courses in the series. The much-loved bike leg takes athletes to rural villages via wide, clear and smooth highways; the run is a pancake-flat course amongst traditional shopfronts and tree-lined boulevards. The revised swim course, a 950 meter Y-shaped loop, takes advantage of the prevailing river current, offering the opportunity to achieve record course times.

In 2009, former Olympian Rasmus Henning set a remarkable debut on the Ironman scene, blitzing the bike course in a new course record of 4:29 and winning his first-ever Ironman event at Ironman China. Chris McCormack, 2007 Ford Ironman World Champion, returns to Ironman China in 2010 hungry for his first Ironman title in more than a year.

The event takes place on the same day as Ironman China and athletes have the opportunity to compete individually or as part of a relay team. Competitors will utilize the same route as Ironman China but will only complete one loop of the bike and run courses. Ironman 70.3 China will begin two hours after Ironman China, with many of the 70.3 competitors likely to finish before the full-distance racers, it’s a great opportunity for accompanying family and friends to take part in their own race. Slots to the new Asia-Pacific Ironman 70.3 Championship, to be held in Phuket, Thailand, in December 2010 will be awarded.

Ironman China entry fee:   $475 USD (until 2/14/10) $550 USD (2/15/10-close)
Ironman 70.3 China entry fee:  $225 USD (until 2/14/10), $250 USD (2/15/10-close)
Application deadline:   Saturday, March 13
